Director Matt Sharkman confirms The Fantastic Four: First Steps takes place in a universe with absolutely no superheroes other than the titular MCU team. Despite being some of the most famous characters in the Marvel multiverse for over sixty years, the Fantastic Four have remained absent from the MCU throughout the franchise's seventeen-year history. Marvel's First Family is making its debut in Phase 6, right before Robert Downey Jr.'s Doctor Doom crowns himself as the MCU's multiversal big bad in Avengers: Doomsday.
